Are you wondering what to do with your kids now that school is out and summer has arrived? If you want to create memories that will last a lifetime, Right Steps Education has a few great ideas that will get the ball rolling. At Right Steps Education, we help families in the Bucks County and surrounding area with all of their child care and preschool needs. Here’s a few of our summer fun ideas that you can share with the entire family.
- Bake a pie or make summer themed cookies.
Summertime’s perfect for going to pick-your-own farms. Why not pick fresh blueberries, strawberries or raspberries? Many local farms offer wagon rides out to the fruit trees so that families can enjoy the experience of picking their own fruit. When you get home, your kids can help with washing the fruit and preparing it for a delicious pie. You can make cookies and jams, too.
- Volunteer at a nature center.
One of the best ways to enjoy nature is by volunteering at a local center. Many nature centers have a need for volunteers, especially during the summer months. You can call around to find out which centers need help with camp programs, animal rescues and guided tours.
- Make a family photo album or photo book.
Why not spend a few days over the summer creating your own photo book or family yearbook? Ask your kids to browse digital files for their favorite photos from the past year and then have them printed at a local store. Many online companies have great deals for photo books and prints, as well.
- Visit the beach.
Nothing symbolizes summer more than a weekend at the beach. Even if you can only spare one day, there’s still time to pack up and head for the shore for fun in the sand and sun. There are many beaches to choose from and many are less than an hour away from major cities. Your kids will have lasting memories for years to come.
- Have a picnic.
The possibilities here are endless. You can pack up and visit a local park for a picnic or you can simply have a barbeque in your own backyard. You can use a small grill for burgers and hot dogs on sticks, then finish off the night with some homemade s’mores.
- Set up a lemonade stand.
Every kid should have a chance to set up a lemonade stand at least once during childhood. Summertime is perfect for making some delicious homemade lemonade and setting your kid up with a stand and some cups. Most locals will stop to support your efforts and enjoy a cup of your refreshing beverage.
- Make homemade pizza.
- Interview an older relative about what life was like when they were young.
- Plan a picnic at a local park—or in your backyard.
